HardToBelieve, thanks again for your last post. I've read it a few times and I'm sure I will get back to it at some point. The courage you've shown in writting it is very inspirational, I've as well been restraining myself from being as active as I would have liked on the board for the same reasons that you stated.

Thank you so much to all of you who have been going with me trought that testing of your nervs, integrity and courage.
For the sake of the board and all the good people who have find, is finding and will find help and comfort on it I will keep sharing, inspite of being a bit frightened. Being on the web we are exposed to anyone reading it and giving us abuse. I am oversensitive to criticism, but it's probably a good exercise for me to be able to ignore it and keep going. This is a place where bullies may get an easy way in, we are eager for aproval and often scared or not used to confrontation.

I've noticed that recently I had been getting a bit anxious about my english (because I am not a native speaker) I almost asked a friend to correct my posts before sending them. Now, I know why. By the way Madorsad, your spelling is great and so are your posts!

The Outsider --
Thanks for your post on this subject. I love your title,
"After the Storm". I believe that most everyone is intimidated by a bully, but I've learned in my life that standing up to bullies works best for me. Quiet people standing around probably isn't the best but never bothered me as long as I could take care of myself. Like I've taught my children if anyone hits you in the playground, you have my permission to hit them back immediately. It's worked! They get along with kids at school, have many friends, but the bully type has to go elsewhere for their kicks, cause my children will stand up to them. I consider it an act of kindness when people let bullies know that their behavior won't be supported. I don't believe they are happy acting that way.

There is a wonderful essay on this Forum titled, "A life in Grace". I loved it and want to live my life that way. Did you or anyone else in this discussion read it?

Outsider
Look at it another way. Being on the web we are exposed to anyone reading our posts and giving us abuse BUT, being on the web we are also anonymous. I have no idea who you are, what you look like, where you are, whether you are male or female. Anyone who abuses this site (and we cannot stop that, any more than we can stop abuse from drunks in the street) does not know you. They have no power over you. They may say insulting and hurtful things in response to your posts, but YOU have the advantage. You can read them, decide whether you agree or not, decide whether you accept any comment or not, decide whether to ignore them or not, even decide if the writer is nice or a complete devil - all at your own leisure.

In other words, you have complete control over how, when, and even whether, you respond.

In this and other forums I have seen people fall out, argue and leave groups, but each and every time I have seen someone unjustly attacked, others members of the group have come to their defence. Try to learn to trust others in this group.

Now - don't worry about your English at all. I've seen far worse from people whose mother tongue is English. In turn for asking you not to worry, I also ask everyone else - if The Outsider writes something which you cannot understand, please ask him/her politely to try to to explain. It's only fair if we ask him/her not to worry, we must then be honest, polite and helpful when we cannot understand.

Let me dip my tow (cough) in to this thread by commenting that it came as a complete surprise to me that Outsider is not a native speaker. We all make spelling mistakes and hit the wrong key occasionally but I assume I've caught Outsider's drift. He/she expresses him/herself perfectly - for an outsider (hehe). Just kidding, no xenophobia here.

How would you know Mad's spelling is so great if you have trouble spelling?

And what about HTB and White? They spell pretty hot too! J

Anyway, here's a thought for ya....if your friend isn't in the mood to check your spelling....write it up on Word first. pffft! So sad, you with your nonEnglish "mother tongue" that makes you feel so shy...on a lighter note..who the heck says "mother tongue" anyway? Man, some of you peeps can sure put on airs!

I have to say you guys are so transparent....I mean, the whole thing about spelling began with someone correcting my username spelling just to be an ass...then when you all want to say how awful it is to pick on spelling you don't mention 'like was done to Vil'....no, you can only talk about Vil in the context of Vil being so mean (and always in third person too, LOL) like you need to believe that so much you can't include me in some wrong done to me no matter what. It's a deliberate exclusion and it speaks volumes for your need to hate someone in order to feel better.

You say – “Now I know why’- ( why you almost got some friend to check your spelling before posting) implying someone might ridicule you for your spelling errors…well, honey, that person who started the spelling ridicule was Madorsad…the very one you applaud! Wow! And in fact, the only one here who has ever picked at anyone’s spelling! Dupe or dope? What more do I need to say?
